Ground ginger has a strong sweet flavour accompanied by a warming heat. It is a fabulous way to spice up biscuits and cakes.
The ginger plant is most commonly found in India although it is grown throughout the world. Ground ginger as a spice is made by soaking the rhizome (root) before drying and grinding it. Sprinkle over root vegetables such as carrots and parsnips before roasting, or marry with butternut squash. Ground ginger works well with Christmas spices in sweeter dishes or any savoury meal with onions and garlic.
