Bulgur wheat is a healthy whole grain, which is similar in texture to couscous and quinoa. It is perfect for those on a low carb diet.
Bulgur wheat is high in fibre and perfect for those on a vegan diet. It doesn’t need to be cooked before use as it has already been pre-steamed. Usually it is simply soaked in water for 15-20 minutes to produce a deliciously fluffy yet chewy grain. The optimum ratio is two cups of water to one cup of bulgur wheat. It is often used in a tabbouleh salad as well as an accompaniment to other dishes in the place of pasta or rice.
Bulgur wheat is incredibly versatile but we love to add it to casseroles to add a bit of bulk.
