Golden linseed are a fantastic source of vegan protein. They can be enjoyed as they are or ground to make it easier to add to recipes and smoothies for a boost in fibre.
Golden linseed is the small, golden-yellow seed of the common flax plant, linum usitatissimum. This is the same plant that is used to grow the fibre which linen is made from. Linseeds add dietary fibre to your diet, so it is important to introduce them slowly into your cooking.
Another fantastic use for Golden Linseeds is as a replacement for eggs as a binding agent. Simply add 1 tablespoon of milled linseed to 2 tablespoons of water and leave to absorb. They will become ‘gloopy’ and can then be added to cakes, biscuits and stuffings to bind ingredients together as an egg would
Linseeds do not need to be cooked before eating and so can be used in many different recipes. They add a fabulous crunch to breads and can also be used to make up your own muesli. We love to add them to homemade curries!
