Turmeric is part of the ginger family and you can definitely taste the warmth. Each year the rhizomes (roots) of the plant are harvested, dried and crushed to form a yellow/orange powder. It is often used to flavour Asian dishes, especially curries and chillies. It has a warm, almost bitter flavour with hints of black pepper and mustard.
