This organic pearl barley has a lovely nutty flavour and chewy texture. It makes a super risotto and adds texture to salads.
Pearl barley is the whole kernel of the barley grain which has been hulled. No soaking is necessary before cooking. It’s a pantry staple and adds texture and bulk to soup, stews and salads.
When pearl barley cooks, it releases starch and so thickens the broth it is being cooked in. Otherwise, if the barley is cooked separately, keep the remaining liquid, as it will contain the starches that were released during cooking- the liquid can be added to soup or stews to thicken them.
